Town Hall For Hope

indiv_promo_ad_336x280

I imagine that I’m not the only one out there who has almost completely stopped listening to the news. I know what it’s going to say: America is out of money; America is out of hope. The financial state of our nation has not only taken food off many tables, but it has also placed a shawl of hopelessness and depression on many backs.

Last week, I went to Walmart and saw a familiar man and spoke to him as an acquaintance. As soon as I spoke he turned to me, and as if he had been dying to tell just anybody, he blurted, “I just picked up my paycheck, and I came straight to buy groceries. That is all my paycheck will buy.”

The way that man hunched low under such a burden was a proclamation of defeat. He walked away with nothing more to add, and I quickly strolled to the next isle with tears rolling down my face.

So many are asking, “What are we going to do?” and more still have stopped asking at all and, like me, struggle with fear and a lack of direction.

I have never enjoyed studying the economy. I’d rather study poetry, but when I read about Town Hall For Hope, directed by Dave Ramsey, my heart leaps, and I have to say: I am excited to hear the word HOPE in correlation to finances in America. Dave Ramsey’s voice has aided many in gaining Financial Peace, and I suspect as one having been well-acquainted with the lows of financial ruin in his past, he is the appropriate guy to lead us in conversation about “what’s happening with our economy, how we got here, and where we’re going.”

Mark your calendars for this nationwide, live event April 23, 8:00 PM ET.  Visit Town Hall for Hope and sign up to host an event or to find where one is being hosted near you.

Help me spread the word about Town Hall for Hope, and I’ll enter your name to win one of three amazing gifts from Dave Ramsey:

1. The Starter Special with Budgeting Tools includes Dave Ramsey’s book, The Total Money Makeover, Financial Peace Revisited, Cash Flow Planning DVD, Dumping Debt DVD, and the Starter Envelope System, retailing $49.99.

Good for you Amber for posting this! Dave's books and podcasts have become common here in our house. As God has taken us on this wild ride, we like to call our lives, we have found hope in Dave's teachings. Not that one day we will have it all but that is okay to live within your means and you can be happy doing it. And I love stuff. Cute, pretty, colorful, wonderful, wanna-roll-in-it, stuff! But we don't need it. Especially if it means paying with next week's pay check. Jason and I have been blessed beyond our wildest dreams this year. Not with over flowing paychecks or bank accounts but with the knowledge that we can live fully with only enough for "our daily bread." Keep up the good work in sharing of the many ways to find peace in Him.

Well, seeing as how I just opened up another scholarship rejection letter for my daughter, I could use a little hope. I just signed up my husband and I for this event. So I guess I am looking forward to getting some answers, some fresh insight, and some hope and understanding.

I too am sick of hearing all the bad news, and have really been looking forward to this conference. We are huge "Dave Fans" in our home and are working the plan.....like gazelles! I pray for many to find true hope from this and am trusting that God has a greater plan ahead for all of us. God is going to be triumphant in this, and it is so important for us to see our blessings in the midst of this financial downturn. As for my family? We are focusing on family, friends, relationships, community, working with our hands, and giving back. For through giving, we receive.

I just read his "Total Money Makeover" and am hoping my husband will read it, too. This Town Hall is exciting because it's an opportunity for people to break out of their routine and meet like-minded -- or at least like-hopeful -- people. I hope my husband and I will both attend.

Wow, Amber, thanks so much for sharing this! My mother is a teacher of FPU at our home church, and my husband and I went through Crown Financial before we got married. These programs are so helpful and encouraging.

I'll definitely be spreading the word for this on my blog, but I'd like to withdraw any entries for me in the drawing, and I am in no need for them, and I'm sure someone else's chance is more important than mine.

You're a special person, may God bless you!

Whoa! How refreshing! Someone putting hope in something other than the President. Sign me up! I'm off to find a meeting near me. Thanks, Amber!!

I've been through his course before. My husband's school encouraged the teachers to go through it - if we completed the course they refunded the purchase price. Pretty sweet.

I'd be interested in attending the Town Hall meeting from home, but can't go out that night. Looks like you have to join a group somewhere so I won't be able to go.

As for your giveaway, I don't need #1 but would really like #2 or #3!!

Thanks!

Wes and I have wanted to do a program like this forEVER! We have tried to sign up for the community groups at Fellowship Bible Church but always seem to miss the cut-off. God blesses us with the ability to just keep all the bills paid and utilities turned on a car in the garage (:, but I feel like I miss the boat on so many levels financially. This would be SUCH a blessing for us to work through this program together. Thanks for the opp, little Miss Amber!

I looooooove Dave. I just sent out a mass email and have 12 folks going with us. I passed my copy of TMMO to a friend this weekend. Thanks for letting us know about this!

I love Dave Ramsey; he states things in a way that is concise, accurate, and easy to understand - like Paula Dean, or Jesus. My favorite might be on Good Morning America, when he summed up the current economic problem this way: "We grew up in a microwave culture and we're in a crock pot situation."

All I know is we are finally back on the envelope system after a rather too lengthy hiatus, and I am already feeling the peace that passeth not understanding where all the money is going.

Oh, and we signed our church up for this telecast last week, so if anyone happens to be driving through Wewoka, Oklahoma on April 23 (likely because they are waaay lost), then feel free to stop by the Wewoka church of Christ! Wahooo!

We love Dave Ramsey around here. We didn't always love him, and by "we" I mean "I". It took me a while the grasp carrying around envelopes full of cash. But, 4 years later, I'm still carrying them around. I hope everyone in need tunes in.

I agree...I am tired of the burden of hearing about finances...yet at the same time a lot of people are really worried...which is rough. If anything, I am happy to see that people are learning to live more frugally. People are learning to be content on less which is a huge lesson we can learn in America where we are so used to having the next big thing...Thanks for sharing!

What a terrific giveaway! How generous. I think we all could use some hope these days - real hope, not just pie-in-the-sky.

I love the fact that so many people are getting on board with Dave Ramsey now! It seems like so many churches are going through his program, many couples are finally deciding to get out of debt, etc.

For the last couple of years I have been "playing" at the finish rich for couples workbook, but we have also paid off everything but our mortgage and my target card. We also had to buy 3 vehicles over the course of last year and a travel trailer for husbands work. we came out of the year still owing nothing but our mortgage and target card. we do this on a single income...would love the set to work with kids....my kids seem to think we are floating in money
for the commenter from wewoka...where is that? i know i have been thru there one time or another...seems like its off I 40 but I cannot remember
