interesting smart thoughts from someone else

Richard Foster in Celebration of Disciplines within the chapter that focuses on Solitude quotes Dietrich Bonhoeffer, saying:

Let him who cannot be alone beware of community …. Let him who is not in community beware of being alone …. Each by its profound pitfalls and perils. One who wants fellowship without solitude plunges into the void of words and feelings, and one who seeks solitude without fellowship perishes in the abyss of vanity, self-infatuation, and despair.

Amber! This is so perfect. I am learning to not love "alone time" (hubby travelin' "southern Georgia" during the week) as much as I did in college. I feel so free during the late hours getting everthing I deem important done only to be burdened down with the loneliness of waking up cold and alone. I have always been an all or nothin' gal and I LOVE the women the Lord is molding me (have you ever kneeded clay?) into.

"...plunges into the void of words and feelings."
Such a void is that.

Sitting in the solitude with you...
Thank you, Amber...

A good quote about balance... we're so prone to extremes, aren't we?
