The Sky’s Wide Open: take a peek

There’s something about me that I haven’t shared with you in post or on my About Page, and I haven’t shared it because it hasn’t been relevant to this space until now. I’m not even sure you’ll believe me when I tell you.

If you were to ask me what is my favorite thing to do, I wouldn’t say that it’s to write. I wouldn’t say that my favorite thing is to read or sing or cook or party. I would have to say that my favorite thing to do is travel and shop. If you were to send me right now anywhere I wanted to go, I would ask to go to a market anywhere. I would ask for Paris, London, or New York City; I would ask for your Flea Market, your town square, your yard sale. I would ask for a bag big enough to carry my finds and a pair of cute walking shoes. { I think these shoes might just be the pair.}

Yes, I’ve been the editor of the Christmas Change blog, and though it seems a contradiction, I consider myself very gifted in finding a bargain and in evaluating quality and the more-for-less aspects of shopping. Of course, it can get out of hand, and that’s why I struggle how I do in regard to suffering. It juxtaposes harshly against my spending as a past-time, if I let shopping be my goal.

Right now, though, shopping is not my goal. It is my gift, and in searching for ways to support our family as we begin the adoption process and as we begin the process of writing a book, I’ve found what I hope to be the perfect thing to use my gift as a service.

I’m partnering with OpenSky (shopopensky.com) to create The RunaMuck’s OpenSky Shop. Today you can go there for a Sneak Peek. They are providing me with the space, and I am having a blast, shopping for me and for you who trust my opinion or might simply be interested in my taste. OpenSky is a community of unique shopkeepers who are providing product specifically for their individual audiences, and it made me wonder what products I would choose to represent those who meet here in this space.

I’m inviting you there any time to see what I’ve found, especially as I line up more and more products that I enjoy or in which I see value. I don’t want any of us to be stuff-driven, so I’m keeping the content here for my writing practice, and from time to time, I’ll invite you there to see what I’ve been thinking. OpenSky allows me to keep my voice, share stories, and give tips in association with good products. These are things I love to do, as I love writing, and now I have the place to do it.

Oh, I know I’m going out on a limb and asking you to join me, but will you? Will you join me at TheRunaMuck’s OpenSky Shop and support the time I spend here on this blog and the efforts we make to follow our passions?

It won’t be long until the products get interesting and have everything to do with celebrating, writing, creating,  parenting, organizing, and feeling pretty. Have you clicked there yet for a Sneak Peek at my Shop? Come on!

i love this, amber. i have a love of dresses, leggings, cute shoes, clear vases, serving platters and cake stands.....i could shop for those things way too much. yet, after learning of the serious extent of poverty in the world, then seeing it for my own eyes when we brought our son home, it has changed. not that i don't love it or do it anymore, but there is a reconciliation going on between what i have & they don't.
ANYWAY...all that to say that i LOVE seeing people use their talents and loves to support their adoptions. it really is a beautiful thing. i'll be following along.

I don't know if anyone else has this little problem, but my husband really doesn't want me to do any sort of money transactions online. Will there be a way to order things by sending you a check first?
I always feel so silly asking this question, but there you have it :-)

    Linda, please don't feel silly. I know that you wouldn't be sending a check to me, but I can ask if there is a way to make any other transactions, and I'll get back to you if I get a positive answer.

    Thank you guys so much for being excited with me.

I love shopping too. Just so fun to see the new things that are out there. But then I find I want the new things in my closet. It's a never ending shopping spiral.

So cute and so fun! I look forward to more selections - I love to see what other people love. Best wishes on this venture, Amber!

Good for you, Amber. If this can help you make a living (or at least contribute to one) doing what you love, than by all means do it! It makes perfect sense, and it is so much more fun and creative (albeit more work) than simply putting ads on your site. (which I'm also in support of, incidentally.) If you were writing The Run Amuck as a print publication, you'd need to compensate yourself for the time and energy put into it; why wouldn't you do the same online?

Good luck in this new venture. I hope it goes well for you!

Well, since I really hate to shop, this might be a very good fit--"girl who loves to shop" provides resources and recommendations for "girl who hates to shop"!
