a child and a birthday suit

pic from weheartit

For my birthday we watched Moonrise Kingdom, and the innocent love of the young girl and boy made me so sad and alive at once. I remembered before I tried to be woman, tying knots in clover stems, bathing with my sister, sticking my tongue in kool-aid packets: innocent girl, tree green eyes, firefly hands.

Real love is when you see the child in me, see me crisscross apple sauce and offer your hands. Down, down baby. Down by the roller coaster. Sweet sweet baby, Mama never let you go.

Dance with me, if you’re my friend. Don’t buy me things; just dance. Talk poetry like a cheshire cat. Talk magical powers. Walk in the wardrobe. Feel the trees in the dark. Sing straight into your hairbrush.

After the movie, we found Eden, ignored good and evil. Sometimes I still remember how to walk naked with God.

Your words, they take my breath. I often don't have more to say to you in this space than that, because they do.

I love the way you dance.

They can call me sacreligious for saying so, but all the powerhouse writers are Leos, these days. (I am not a Leo.) Happy Birthday, Amber. Praying for perfect health in your home, this year, and continuing happiness and grace and love.

There was something about that movie that made me just feel so real, I guess. I felt it and loved it and smile when thinking of it.

I'm glad you were born, Amber. I know I'm far from the only one. :)

Nostalgia...the ache of an old wound...don't buy me things, just stir memory...unless we become like little children...

Thanks, and yes its a brilliant film.

Oh, my. Thanks for this, Amber-in-the-wardrobe. I'm right there with you. Glad you had an Edenic moment in the midst of way too much evidence of the fall.

Love this inspired post, the way you string words together like a collection of trinkets around your wrist. I prayed for you and Titus today while I drove alone to the doctor.

So just in case I never told you, I love your words so very much. Can't tell you how lovely this is. Won't try. You do poetry like no one else, Amber. Bless you, and bless Titus on his road to healing.
