a bathroom in a rock house

Boredom is the worst, and since I have to go to the bathroom so often, I thought this would be a great place to add some excitement.

view from the hallThe view from the purple hall into the downstairs bathroom is colorful, and I love colorful. The walls are painted Sherwin William’s Peristyle Brass. I have this color all over my house. In some lights it’s gold. In others, it’s green or yellow – bold and subtle all at once. The VCT on the floor is not so subtle. Don’t you just love a good cafeteria floor in the bathroom? (Rather, don’t you just love cheap cheap cheap – I mean, inexpensive?)

Target Shower CurtainWe painted the ceiling the same chocolate brown as on the shower curtain we bought from Target. The little door with vintage handle goes to storage space under the stairs. It’s strange, and it smells like Grandma’s jars of cream.

glazed cabinets and glass pullsWe glazed the rickety cabinets and added new glass handles and pulls, also from Target.

vintage medicine cabinets and new light fixtureThe mirror of this vintage medicine cabinet is that thick, old, blackening glass – a favorite of mine.

strange hallwayI’m also fond of this archway in the hall. You can see the Peristyle Brass here again on the  hall ceiling.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve done to decorate your house?

Hurray for more pictures of your house! Love that paint. I will have to check it out. As for VCT tiles, that's what I've been begging my husband to let me use for our kitchen floor. Only, in a white and blue checkerboard pattern. I really like it, but then again, I'm kind of weird that way. :)

The strangest thing I ever did to decorate? I once painted big grey polka dots all over my blue dining room walls. It looked better than it sounds, and I liked it, but eventually painted over it with a nice green. When we first moved into our house, I was so anxious to paint - it was the first time living in a non-rental house - and we were so poor. So, I took acrylic craft paint (purple) and painted my babies' hands in it and then had them put their handprints all over my white kitchen cabinet doors. That's the second strangest thing I ever did, but I loved it. :)

Love that flooring.

We took a regular kitchen cabinet and turned it into an island. We covered the unsightly back with a piece of MDF painted with chalkboard paint. Lots of chalk dust in my kitchen, but lots of entertainment, too.

Amber, it's superb! I did not know they had knobs at Targaeaux, must go find some for my kitchen there...

Love all the color! LOVE the VCT floor. Our new house will for sure have a black and white checkerboard VCT floored laundry room. I have dreamed of it and I love the price.

I adore your sense of color and of space. Your house is like a palimpsest.

Since I have only been able to paint in a limited fashion in all 3 homes (2 apartments, one townhome) we've lived in, I try to be creative by introducing salvaged architectural elements. Probably the one that gets the most raised eyebrows and, oddly enough, the most compliments, is a huge balustrade I have hanging on the wall. I tuck various odds and ends between the rungs, depending on the season. For instance, right now there are old blue mason jars and candles, very summery to me. In fall it might be odds and ends from the outdoors, and at Christmas...well, here's a link to what I did this year (3rd picture down):

It helps make my dreary gray walls a little brighter. :)

I love the look of these spaces....so you. Beautiful and full of color. Chris is actually in the process of painting a couple of rooms in our home while I'm on vacation.....I am dying to get home to see how they turn out. I love what a paint change can do for my spirit.

Most interesting paint job in my house? My powder room is black with silver trim (silver door and ceiling and baseboards....). I love it.

I have a real chandaler(sp) that was given to me. It's not big but it is real flashy. It hung in the down stairs "water closet." It moved with us. If I'm gonna "go"...I'm gonna go in style!

wow! this is you! I love what you have done to the place. I haven't seen all the befores...but I have a good imagination. You are inspiring me to do more painting in my house.

I can't remember if you have seen my purple bath room... It is almost a Barney purple. It was orininally going to be an accent color in Paige's bedroom, which is celery green. She out grew the green walls will huge purple pokey-dots and purple trim before I could do it; but the green is very nice! Back to the bathroom...it is purple, the shower curtain has purple, black, tan, cream, gray, and blue all mixed in squares (one of those have to see it to appreciate it) all over the curtain. I have a gray tiled floor, a black, a blue, and a cream throw rugs, all those colors in towels, so I have a very wild hall bathroom.

I need to get on with my painting projects for sure! Thanks for the inspration!

I can't wait to see it, Pam. We'll come for Erin's baby in the Fall.

You really make it seem so easy together with your presentation but I to find this matter to be actually something which I
believe I would by no means understand. It seems too
complex and very vast for me. I'm looking ahead in your subsequent put up,
I will try to get the hold of it!
