my people
I’ve been in Alabama with my family. They’re watching the boys while I’m in Nashville for Blissdom. While home, my Mama made home-made banana pudding, and while it was warm and the wafers still fresh, I gobbled down a huge bowl of it, and I gained 5 pounds all at once, and I loved every second of it.
I spent a good bit of time at my sister’s house, and I got to see my brother-in-law, too. Brother-in-laws are simply good for nothing if they can’t show you a good youTube video or two. Don’t you agree?
Sweet Home Alabama, y’all. (Don’t you love local commercials?)
At Blissdom, the plan is that I be in a suite with the writers of Tout-est-des-Roses, Pensieve, Chatting at the Sky, The Nesing Place, The Inspired Room, and Reluctant Entertainer. I can’t even believe it. These ladies are quality, and I know they’ll make me laugh till I cry.
I’ll be joining the writers of Chatting at the Sky, To Think is To Create, Velveteen Mind, Deb on the Rocks, and Alpha Mom in sessions called The Writer’s Craft and Content is Queen . Please check these ladies out.
I promise to report back with interesting details. In the meantime, pray for me/us/them, and I pray for you. Too many of you won’t be at Blissdom, and that doesn’t mean doodly squat. You’re just as awesome as you ever were.
Soon.

February 4, 2010I started reading your blog long before I knew our "connection". You're from Alabama...I'm from Alabama...we've gotta have one, right? ;) You've touched me with so many of your posts - one that comes to mind, "the girl and the Genius" - I cried and cried - it is so beautiful. But, I'm commenting today because of the deadpan, mobile home commercial that makes me laugh til I wanna cry. It reminds me of your brother-in-law, my friend, our "connection" with the great sense of humor. I hope he and his lovely wife are doing well - along with their young'uns. Thanks so much for sharing your honest heart through your writing.

February 4, 2010I love that commercial! And interestingly enough, it's my brother-in-law who provides all the good YouTube links around here, too!

February 4, 2010Oh my gosh- you had me at warm banana pudding. BUT THEN, my husband and I watched the video. We laughed. We laughed hard. I am pretty sure my husband will be sharing that link... and a link to a commercial about the red house (There's an option to see all videos, which links to other funny commercials. The Red House commercial is from North Carolina. OH.MY.GOODNESS, you should check that one out, too.).
I am not kidding... you just changed the mood at my house. We were starting showers and baths for our 4 kids and my husband was exasperated. He is singing and laughing now.

February 6, 2010That is HILARIOUS!!! Showing it to my whole family right now. Local commercials truly are the best. I live in SC...we have some crazies here but yours takes the cake. I'm moving to Alabama.

February 7, 2010Amber- I so enjoyed meeting you, talking with you and listening to your panel this weekend. I just loved what you had to say on the panel. It awakened the writer in me again that I've ignored for so long as I've tended to the craziness of life. Thank you so much! I can't tell you how grateful I am. Now I'm faced with the question, "Now what?" :)
I woke up this morning and couldn't sleep and just devoured your posts. Beautiful. You had me crying and laughing before 7:30 am! Thank you for everything. I'm so happy I have met you!

February 8, 2010That is the most stinkin' hilarious video I've ever seen. Beat up by his wife's boyfriend? Are they real people? Make's you want a mobile home doesn't it?
