You Oughta Know: Let Loose

At any point in the day, my head swirls so full of randomness that there’s no telling what could blurt out my mouth. It’s like a brain tornado in there. My closest friends know this best. Especially in this age of little addictive telephone screens, I can go through phases with hardly a hair of discipline to properly string two thoughts together. But single ideas shooting in every direction? Oh, I’ve got those.

Recently I started a habit of journalling first thing in the morning before I do any reading or proper writing. This journalling could be saving my brain and has become my way to clear some mighty thick cobwebs. It’s how I blurt out all the things on the surface. It’s achingly hilarious how deep some of these surface thoughts are – once I give myself permission to write freely. Often, the things that come out show me certain desires I haven’t acknowledged were pulling me along. I get to see how much I worry. I also write the things that happened yesterday, and I tend to tell the funny stories. This brings the gratitude element to my morning, which could be saving my whole self: mind, body, and soul.FullSizeRender

On Fridays, I hope to come here and blurt out some of the surface things floating around my head, things I think you oughta know, especially posts I’ve read, or products I enjoy, or stories that shine beauty or make me laugh. I want to show you the random things and clear the cobwebs around here.

I hope to always have something to give away, too. I have a gorgeous bracelet to give away today!

You oughta know about Fair Trade Friday.

Kristen Welch, founder of Mercy House Kenya, let me try out a Fair Trade Friday box this month, and I have to say that I couldn’t have been more pleased. I can’t wait to get another box, but they’re so popular that there’s a wait list, and by george I’m on it now.

Fair Trade Friday is a monthly membership club that delivers a box of 3-4 high quality items to your door by the first Friday of the month. The items in the box are fairly traded and provide employment to women all over the world. 100% of the proceeds from each box goes to the empowerment of impoverished women as an avenue to introduce them to the Gospel. Plus, they are really cute!”

My box happened to have products from JOYN, gorgeous hand-stamped fabric from India, and JOYN is an upstanding business run by some of the most marvelous humans I know. There’s a unique and gorgeous bracelet, painted gold and inset with green, and the colors of a peacock, but for some reason, my wrists never hit puberty. It’s too big for me, so if you get on that waiting list, let me know in the comments! I’ll draw a name at random and send it to one of you!

There was also a cool pair of earrings and a necklace I love. See below at my awesome Price-Is-Right modeling of said pieces.

You oughta know about this jaw-dropping post:

He Wrote It Down from In Others’ Words. Look here at the power of confession.

You oughta know when it’s time to let go.

Nish Weiseth, founder of A Deeper Story, is doing just that. Read about the last days of Deeper Story here.

You oughta know about Seth’s newsletter.

I’m excited to share more with you about our switch to a tiny, new congregation here in Fayetteville, after 11 years at a larger evangelical church that we love still. Seth’s once-a-month newsletter is always so beautiful. This month he shares his version of the story, and it has everything to do with rest, so take a deep breath and sign up for it!  I’ll share my version soon.

And speaking of newsletters, you oughta know …

I have book news to share! I’m picking my newsletter back up and will send it out February 2nd. I have kept so quiet about writing and publishing, but it’s about time to spill it. Doesn’t it seem right and good to tell the small inner-circle first? Just sign up, and you’ll hear my news once a month in a space that’s not so out in the open.

Finally you oughta know that people act like this in public ONLY BECAUSE THEY’RE AWESOME.

It couldn’t have anything to do with the bag of mushrooms he possibly ate. If raging hippy music is annoying to you, please keep me in the dark about it, but you should consider turning the volume down before you watch this video.

Dear poets and lovers of words and music, all creatures of our God and King, let loose a little this weekend. I promise you that I will! Follow me on instagram or Facebook, because I have an adventure to take that you may enjoy. It has to do with CANADA! Pray I’ll mind my manners.
